Overview
The Section of Palliative Care Medicine in Manitoba dates to the establishment of Canada’s first palliative care program in Winnipeg in 1974 and maintains a strong national presence.
Clinical Service
Palliative care services are provided across healthcare facilities in Manitoba for patients with advanced illness.
Education
The section offers a two-year palliative medicine subspecialty program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Residents participate in UGME teaching and CME lectures and events.
Research
Nine Royal College-certified Palliative Medicine physicians conduct research on advanced communication, dignity therapy, physician and team wellness, and advanced symptom management.
Administration
Faculty include physicians from internal medicine, anesthesiology, oncology, and emergency medicine, with affiliated internists and family medicine faculty contributing to teaching, research leadership, and clinical care.
