Overview
The Section of Hepatology at the University of Manitoba is the first of its kind in Canada, independent from gastroenterology.
Clinical Service
Palliative care services are provided across various healthcare facilities in Manitoba, ensuring accessible and comprehensive care for patients with advanced illness.
Education
The section offers an RCPSC AFC program in adult hepatology. It trains hepatology fellows and rotating fellows and residents from General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology; faculty are also involved in UGME training.
Research
Section members conduct clinical research through the clinical trial unit. Focus areas include liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the Canadian First Nations population, and cancer stem cells in hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma.
Administration
Faculty include hepatologists and a PhD researcher, supported by clinical assistants and post-doctoral fellows.
